Hi J.S. Park. Just wanted to ask how the retreat some weeks back went, specifically the 'acoustic experiment' part you were a bit nervous about. Sorry if you posted something and I missed it; in that case you can just point me to that post :P
It went very, very well. Thank you so much for asking. There were of course some youth students who wanted to jump up and down and get wild, and I made a mistake in not explaining the purpose beforehand, but otherwise we really struck a level of intimacy that surprised even me.
One hymn in particular, “Because He Lives,” nearly tore the roof off. We did some great old classics like “Heart of Worship,” “As The Deer,” “I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever,” and my favorite of all time, “In The Secret.” I’m not the best singer or guitarist, but the Spirit was really moving.
I’m thinking for our next revival, we might go acoustic again. It’s a bit unorthodox and complaints are expected, but I really love that we’re not falling back on loud noise as a crutch to stir the wrong affections. It seriously felt like just us and the Lord.
I’m thinking next of experimenting with “Jungle Garbage Latino Rock,” a genre that only makes sense in my head at the moment. I’m sure another blog post about that is in order.
