Continuing the teachings on the sermon series called “God Wins: The Story of God And His People.”
This is a short summary of the third sermon, titled “The Church That Hell Can’t Break.”
The summary for part one is here and part two is here.
When we hear the word “church,” we conjure up tons of different images.
Pews, pulpits, pipe organs, stained glass windows — or fog machines, jumbo screens, laser lights, and ripped jeans.
What do you expect when you come to church?
We expect: music, socialization, medium lighting, a practical message, lunch after. All good things, until they leave out a transformative encounter with the Living God.
This can only happen when we understand the Mission of the Church.
The church’s mission is to be God’s powerful force for good in the universe.
The three purposes of the church are:
1) To lift up the name of Jesus Christ. Love Christ.
2) To serve one another. Live Christ.
3) To serve those beyond the church. Share Christ.
